Fighting Tanglers can be a potentially long draw due to their {{DEF}}Defense and '''Vine Trap''' ability stalling the fight. By itself, they do not pose a major threat but should be taken out immediately after any supporting [[Druid]]s are defeated. The most serious issue is their '''Wood Thorns''' attack which is used rapidly and can catch even experienced players off guard. As with all other enemies, practice is essential to make avoiding these attacks easier.

Enemy

These strange creatures were created by the Druids to serve as henchmen. Because of this, they are capable of using life energy, meaning they can create wood and stone out of thin air and use them as deadly weapons. They are completely made out of wood, giving them natural defense.

Overview

Tanglers are enemies that appear as an intersected log with limbs created by Druids after having been brainwashed. They can be encountered along Frogville Road and within the Druid Grove, and they can also be summoned by Druids and players with the Summon Tangler skill.

Skills

  • Vine Trap (SP0) - Deals POW3 Damage and inflicts StuckStuck for one turn if not blocked. Undodgeable.
    • (Corruption1) - Damage increased to POW5.
    • (Corruption2) - Damage increased to POW7.
    • (Corruption3) - Damage increased to POW9.
  • Wood Thorns (SP2) - Rapidly launches thorns, dealing POW4 Damage to each enemy in order of join order and piercing DEF1 Defense. Dodgeable.
    • (Corruption1) - Damage increased to POW6.
    • (Corruption2) - Damage increased to POW8.
    • (Corruption3) - Damage increased to POW10.
  • (Corruption2) Savage Hit (SP2) - Deals POW12 Damage and inflicts StunStun for two turns. Dodgeable.
    • (Corruption3) - Damage increased to POW14.
  • (Corruption3) Barrage (SP2) - Deals POW18 Damage in total, first hit dealing 10 Damage and the rest dealing 1 Damage. Partially Dodgeable.

Strategy

Fighting Tanglers could be a long draw due to their DEFDefense and Vine Trap skill potentially stalling the fight. By itself, they do not pose a major threat but should be taken out immediately after any supporting Druids are defeated. As with all other enemies, practice is essential to make avoiding their attacks easier.

Vine Trap is a skill used by default by Tanglers due to its SP0 SP cost. This undodgeable skill inflicts StuckStuck to one player, but the status can be prevented with a well-timed block. If you cannot block consistently, Ice Armor can completely nullify Vine Trap, though if given a PoweredUpbuff from Druids, it deals enough damage to inflict StuckStuck regardless.
Wood Thorns is executed quickly and can even catch experienced players off guard, but fortunately, with enough practice and anticipation, this skill can be dodged easily.

Tanglers are almost always accompanied by Druids. If there are Druids, they should be taken out before the Tanglers to minimize enemy support play in the battle. Skills that are useful against a minor to moderate defense such as Basic Archery or Dull Rapier are recommended against Tanglers. Any skill that inflicts StunStun or StuckStuck could also be useful to prevent them from doing the same to you.

Against CorruptionCorrupted Tanglers, Ice Armor becomes useless for defending against the StuckStuck status. They also gain Savage Hit and Barrage, and their DEFDefense might get so high that low SPSP skills will have no effect on them. In that case, skills targeted against defense such as Stone Arm, Dull Rapier, and Stunning Evil Impact are recommended against such Tanglers.

Trivia

  • As of now, Tanglers are the only Enemy to not have any gear drops of their own, and only their respective cards drop.
  • Wood Thorns had a past name which is 'Nature's Arsenal'.
  • There is a Secret Tangler Tree in Mellow Meadows near Mellow Ranch and the Meadows Minigame. This may suggest that Tanglers can naturally grow into trees, or that Druids can further enhance them into trees.
  • Since Tanglers do not drop anything, the corrupt versions are not worth farming. (Unless if you want a challenge for corruption auras.)
